Our Story

Pickett’s Press was founded in 2008, by Kate Pickett.

Kate Pickett has loved drawing, illustrations, letterpress printing and beautiful paper practically since birth. With an art teacher for a mother, friends often joke that Kate was born with a paintbrush in her hand. When she was a little girl, the first thing she had to do after returning from a party was sit down and write a thank you note. She quickly learned that the nicer the paper, the more fun to write! Thus began her love of stationery, and her eye for good printing and design. She wants everyone to love writing on their stationery as much as she does on beautiful paper letterpress printed with a beautiful font and motif. After a stint as an investment banker, Kate attended Harvard Business School, where she created her business plan for Pickett’s Press. She followed this formal education with on the job retail training at Kate’s Paperie, as the buyer for stationery for all US stores. After Barrett, Jack and Whitney arrived, Kate launched Pickett’s Press and they have all enjoyed “working” together getting the business started. Barrett’s favorite things to draw are firetrucks, and Jack and Whitney try not to eat the crayons.

Letterpress printing is a craft - lovingly practiced by artisans and enthusiasts. At Pickett’s Press, each piece of paper is hand-fed through antique presses, which allows for the unique look and character of our products. It is a meticulous, finicky, and at times, pain-staking process, but the result is a thing of beauty. And this is why even though letterpress is the oldest form of printing available, we are thrilled to practice it today.
